What effects does the MOON have ? Legend says that more mothers give birth on the night of a full moon , more car accidents occurs , and people are crazier and more violent . Some people say the Moon increases the electrical charge in our bodies . There are more emergency patients . Sufferers of epilepsy have more agitated and violent . Violent crimes and suicide rates increase . Ovulation peaks with the full moon . And human emotional and physical cycles coincide with the Moon`s 28-day lunar cycle .
How can we explain these apparent effects ? One explanation is that our bodies are like the oceans . The Moon and the gravitational forces cause the tides . Our bodies contain a hight percentage of water , so this water is also affected by the Moon .
SCIENCE
What does science say about this ? An ocean is enormous and the physical effect of the Moon is relatively small . Scientists suggest that the effect of the Moon on our bodies is almost zero . The myths are probably from the historical times . There was no artificial lighting . So the full moon filled the night sky with light and it probably disturbed people`s sleep . Sleep deprivation can exaggerate abnormal behavior in mental patients and cause epileptic crises .

Even if most studies suggest there is no relation between the lunar cycle and accidents , emergencies or births , we continue to blame our misfortune on the Moon ! In the year 2000 , for example , commentators suggested that the USA presidential election was affected by the full moon . This was the explanation for President Bush`s victory !
